NEET- Like Exams To Be Held For Judges!
June 15, 2017
The government has proposed to the Supreme Court an NEET-like examination to recruit judges to the lower judiciary.
There have been concerns over the quality of judicial officers in the district courts as well as about the lack of uniformity in their recruitment. Currently, nearly 5000 posts of judicial officers are vacant – nearly a fourth of the total 21000 positions – in the subordinate judiciary. Law Ministry sources point out that a bulk of the pending three crore cases in the country is in the lower courts and it’s necessary that these vacancies are filled at the earliest.
WHAT KIND OF EXAMS?
Law ministry secretary (justice) Snehalata Srivastava recently wrote to the Supreme Court that CBSE shall be responsible for conducting the entrance test, declaration of result and preparation of an all-India rank that is similar to NEET. Among the other suggestions in the communication, the government has proposed that the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) hold the entrance test.
