June 16, 2017
On June 17th 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Kochi Metro Rail. He’s officially the first passenger on the metro.
THE KOCHI METRO
Kochi Metro is a proposed rapid transit system for the city of Kochi in Kerala, India. The 25.65km metro line will run from Aluva to Petta and will include 22 stations. The construction for the metro project began in 2013, while former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had laid the foundation stone for it in 2012.
The inaugural function of the Metro will be held at Aluva in Ernakulam district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the commercial operations of the Kochi Metro on June 17. To witness the inauguration, 3,500 guests have reportedly been invited and will be part of the event.
It has emerged that E Sreedharan’s name is missing from the list of people who would be sharing the stage with PM Modi, along with 16 others. The omission of E. Sreedharan by the Prime Minister’s Office from the list of dignitaries for the inauguration was widely disapproved. He had spearheaded not just the Kochi Metro, but also the Kolkata Metro, Delhi Metro and Konkan Railway projects and had become famous as ‘India’s Metro Man’.
