The event was part of the company’s feasibility study of its plan to launch helicopter ride option in the city of Jakarta. Grab offered the helicopter ride option, called GrabHeli, to its top users and drivers in Indonesia. This special event took place on 11th and 12th of June 2017 and was held in conjunction with Grab’s fifth-year anniversary celebrations. Each ride lasted for 15 minutes. The helicopter was designed to carry 4 individuals at a time.
The city is infamous for its traffic congestion. These jams can sometimes culminate into ‘days-long’ gridlocks, and in some cases, cause fatigue-related deaths. Helicopters can overcome this issue by simply flying over the ground traffic.
Grab is the leading ride-hailing platform in the Southeast Asia. It was founded in 2012. It is the biggest rival of Uber in the Southeast Asia region. Grab had earlier launched a three-month trial run in the Philippines in 2015.
