Manpreet Kaur Bags Gold Medal!

India’s Manpreet Kaur bagged the gold medal in women’s shot-put on the opening day of the Asian Athletics Championships 2017 in Bhubaneswar on July 6th, 2017.

The Asian Athletics Championships is an event organized by the Asian Athletics Association. Asian Athletics Association organises its flagship championship every two years. 22nd Asian Athletics Championship will be held Bhubaneswar, INDIA from July 6-9, 2017.
THE WINNING GOLD
Manpreet Kaur, won the coveted gold medal in the women’s shot put event, by recording a 18.28m attempt. The total tally of medals for India on Day 1 is 7 with 2 golds, 1 silver and 4 bronze. Later in the day, long distance runner (5000 m) G Lakshmanan won the second gold medal for India on the first day of the tournament.
The 27-year-old shot putter from Ambala had earlier completed a throw of 18.86 metres at the Asian Grand Prix in China earlier this year. Though, she could not break the record at the Asian Athletics Championships 2017, Manpreet managed a throw close to her best. She had qualified for the World Championships in London in April and broken the national record twice in last 20 months.
